Around 40 tribal families live in the
village called Kumkumpudi under Gudemkothaveedhi mandal in Visakhapatnam
distict. They own small houses (called pakka houses), fields and other small
properties. Out of these families, around 15 families embraced JESUS. But the
Maoists didn’t like this as the members started refusing to do unlawful things,
which meant a lot of non-cooperation to Maoists and their activities. They threatened
these tribals not to accept JESUS CHRIST. But the tribals still clung to JESUS
CHRIST, for which the Maoists got furious and commanded them to leave their
village immediately if they cannot leave JESUS. They were also furious with
these families for not cooperating in their activities. So the 15 families
consisting of around 70 people came out of the village on 26th of
April 2013, injured and outcast. They
came to the place Kasimi in Golugonda mandal and finding waste land there, considered
developing and converting the waste land into cultivatable land, and make their
living in that place. But the forest department intervened, saying that the
tribals cannot make use of the forest lands for cultivation. They tried to
transport them back to their own village in a van and failed.
These tribals stayed under the trees
suffering and shaken, with their little ones for days without shelter and food at
a place called Thumbalagedda of chintapalli mandal. These tribals approached
the authorities and also appealed to the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of
Narsipatnam, Mr. Damodaran to provide them proper shelter and means of
livelihood, and also to provide them protection from the Maoists. This article
was published in many local newspapers on 3rd May 2013.
